Gutter Cleaning Costs in Cambridge (2026)
Planning ranges for gutter cleaning and related work in Cambridge in 2026, and a plain account of why a two-storey Galt house costs more than a Hespeler bungalow twice its floor area.
These are planning ranges, not prices. They are what the work commonly comes to on Cambridge houses, so you can tell a fair quote from a strange one. The number for your house is written after someone has looked at it, including inside the downspouts, because that is where the surprises are.
Planning ranges
- Eavestrough cleaning, single-storey house: roughly $150–$300, including flushing and testing every downspout and bagging the debris.
- Eavestrough cleaning, two-storey house: roughly $250–$450. Steep roofs, tall gables and awkward ground under the ladder push toward the top; a packed November trough under a West Galt maple can go past it.
- Downspout clearing on its own: roughly $60–$120 per blocked downspout where the trough does not need a full clean, less per unit as part of a clean. Opening an elbow is included; replacing a split elbow is a small repair on top.
- Gutter guards, installed on existing eavestrough: roughly $10–$30 per linear foot depending on type, with screen inserts at the bottom and micro-mesh at the top. A typical two-storey house has 120 to 180 feet of trough; guarding one run is a fraction of that.
- Minor repairs: roughly $100–$350 for a visit's worth of resealing, re-hanging and reattaching, done with a clean. A single resealed corner is at the bottom; replacing a run of spikes with hidden hangers along a whole side is at the top.
- Maintenance plans: priced per visit at a modest discount to a one-off, so a two-visit plan on a two-storey house commonly lands around $450–$800 a year and a single-visit plan around $150–$400.
All of those assume conventional residential eavestroughs reachable from a ladder. Commercial buildings, anything needing a lift, and roofs that cannot be worked from a ladder are quoted after a look.
What moves the price
- Height and roof pitch. The biggest factor. A storey-and-a-half Galt house with a steep roof is harder and slower than a sprawling bungalow with twice the trough, because every move of the ladder is a tall one and the fall-protection rules the crew works to add time.
- What is in the trough. A dusting of grit flushes out in minutes. A November load of wet maple leaves and compost under a West Galt tree is a bucket every few feet and has to be carried down.
- Downspouts. Their number and their state. Four clear downspouts are quick. Two that are packed solid at both elbows and one that disappears underground into a pipe that backs up are the slow part of the visit.
- The ground under the ladder. Sloped lawns, window wells, flagstone paths, a deck, a hedge against the wall. Each needs the ladder set differently and some runs need a stand-off or a leveller.
- Moss. Common on north-facing troughs in the river-valley lots, and it has to be scraped, not flushed.
- Guards already fitted. Guards that lift off add a little time; glued or riveted products that cannot be removed add more and may limit what can be done.
How a quote should read
A quote worth accepting says how many downspouts are included, that each one is flushed and tested, what happens to the debris, whether minor repairs are included or quoted separately, and that you will get photos. A single number by phone for a house nobody has seen is a guess, and the guess usually gets corrected on the day in a direction you will not like.
What is not on this page
Eavestrough replacement, new installation, and fascia and soffit work. Those are installation jobs priced by an eavestrough installer, and this site does not quote them. If your gutters are past cleaning and repair, you will be told so and left to get that quote elsewhere, rather than being sold a clean on a trough that is finished.
Frequently asked questions
Why is my two-storey quoted higher than my neighbour's bigger bungalow?
Height. A two-storey Galt house puts the trough at a height where every ladder move is slow and the crew works to fall-protection rules, while a bungalow is reached from a short ladder all the way round. Linear feet of trough is a smaller factor than most people assume.
Is it cheaper to have the gutters cleaned in spring?
Slightly, because the troughs carry less and the schedule is quieter. It is not a substitute for the fall clean on a maple street, because the fall clean is what stops the ice. On a light-debris house, spring can be the one visit a year.
Do you charge extra for a blocked downspout?
Flushing and testing every downspout is part of every clean. Rodding or opening an elbow on one that is packed is normally included too; the exception is a downspout that has to be taken apart along its length or replaced because ice has split it, which is a small repair and is said before it is done.
Do you charge for a quote?
No. On most houses the quote is written from a quick visit or from clear photos of each side of the house and the ground under the eaves. What you will not get is a firm number for a house nobody has looked at.
Are guards cheaper per foot if I do the whole house?
Somewhat, because the setup is shared. But guarding only the run under the big tree is often the better spend, and that will be said even though it is the smaller job.
Is the cost tax included?
Quotes state the price and HST separately, so the number you compare is the number before tax, like every other trade.
Price ranges above are typical Waterloo Region figures for 2026 and are provided for planning only. Every job is quoted in writing after a site visit. Last updated October 24, 2026.
