Seasonal Gutter Maintenance Plans in Cambridge
The point of a maintenance plan is not a discount. It is that the gutters get cleared in the two weeks after the maples finish, every year, without you remembering to call during the busiest fortnight of the season.
Gutter cleaning in Cambridge has a problem of timing. The window that matters, after the leaves are down and before the first hard freeze, is about three weeks long in November, and everyone with a maple over the roof wants the same three weeks. A plan books your place in that window in advance, so the fall visit is on the calendar in September rather than fought for in November.
The two plans
- Two-visit plan. A fall clean in November and a spring clean in late May or June. This is the right plan for the mature-tree streets in West Galt, Preston, old Hespeler and Blair, where the spring visit takes out maple keys, blossom and the winter's grit before the summer storms arrive.
- Single-visit plan. One fall clean a year, booked ahead. Right for the newer subdivisions with young trees, and for houses with guards where the visit is a check and brush-off rather than a clean.
What every visit includes
The same standard as a one-off clean: troughs cleared by hand, every downspout flushed and tested to the outlet, the discharge checked so water lands on grass rather than at the foundation, debris bagged to the Region's yard waste rules or taken away, and a set of photos sent to you afterwards showing the troughs before and after and anything that needs attention. Minor repairs found on a visit are quoted in writing before they are done, unless you have asked for small items under an agreed amount to be handled on the spot.
Who plans suit
- Owners who are not at the house. A plan means the gutters are looked after whether you are travelling, at the cottage or simply not thinking about it.
- Small landlords. A duplex in Preston or a converted house in Galt with tenants who are never going to mention the overflowing gutter until the ceiling is wet. The visit happens on schedule and the photos are your record.
- Older residents. For whom the ladder is simply not an option, and should not be.
- Anyone who has had an ice dam. The fall clean is the cheapest part of preventing the next one.
How it works
The first visit is quoted after a look at the house like any other job. The plan price is set from that visit and written down, with the visit months agreed. You are contacted a couple of weeks before each visit with a date; you do not need to be home as long as the taps and gates are accessible. Plans run year to year and can be stopped with a message; there is no contract term and nothing auto-renews without you being told.
Weather
Fall visits are scheduled for the second half of November on maple streets and earlier on lighter lots, and if an early freeze or heavy snow closes the window, the visit is moved to the first open week rather than skipped. Spring visits are set after the keys have fallen. The dates flex with the season; the fact of the visit does not.
Frequently asked questions
Is a plan cheaper than booking twice?
Somewhat, because the route is planned and the crew is not making a one-off trip, and the plan price is on the cost page as a planning range. The bigger benefit is getting the November slot. Cheapness is not the pitch.
Can I put a rental property on a plan without the tenant being involved?
Yes. The visit needs an outside tap and access to the yard, and the tenant is given notice of the date as a courtesy. Photos and the invoice go to you, not to them.
What if the gutters do not need cleaning on a scheduled visit?
Then the visit is a check: downspouts tested, guards brushed off if you have them, hardware looked at, and photos sent. On a single-visit plan that still has value; on a two-visit plan where the spring visit is consistently light, the plan is changed to a single visit and the price with it.
